Washington: Jacob Gideon, Jun., 1818. A new edition with "the numbers written by Mr. Madison corrected by himself." Modern full leather gilt with a red lettering label to spine. 8 5/8 x 5 inches (21 x 13 cm); 671 pp., an early manuscript index bound-in at front. Faint old dampstain affects the upper corner of the first and last leaves, ink signature to title "E. Lincoln's", toned but generally quite clean.

A nicely bound copy of this desirable early edition of The Federalist, here with each essay attributed to Hamilton, Jay and, new to this edition, Madison.
