An important work of Revolutionary War history, this is almost invariably found without the two fine maps. We note only one two copies with them that have been sold at auction since the 1980s, the last in 2012. The author came to America from England in 1770 to serve as the pastor of the Third Congregational Church in Roxbury, MA. He was a supporter of the American patriot cause, but he returned to England in 1786 as he was concerned that his account would cause some dissension in American political circles. He published the first edition of this work there in 1788." To its preparation Jefferson contributed some aid"--Howes G256. Evans 21861; Sabin 28011.
