NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle is honored to auction The Angling, Decoy & Americana Collection of John Parmly of Rumson, New Jersey. The auction is offered as a timed online-only auction on Doyle.com. Bidding will close on Wednesday, December 4 beginning at 10am EST.
John Parmly owned the Parmly Tackle Shop in Sea Bright, New Jersey, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. The auction features approximately 100 duck decoys used and collected by Parmly, as well as much literature on angling, hunting and related fields, including atlases of Monmouth County and New Jersey.
John Parmly was a descendant of Dr. Eleazar Parmly (1797-1874), an important pioneer American dentist credited with advancing the field from a primitive craft to a respected profession. In 1826, Dr. Parmly treated President John Quincy Adams, in 1847 was elected Provost of the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, and in his retirement was a friend of Abraham Lincoln. In the 1830s, Dr. Parmly came to own the 650 acre estate at Black Point before settling on the 275 acre estate known as Bingham Hill, both in Rumson, New Jersey, and the family remained there until 1940.
The auction also features fine examples of the prolific writings of Dr. Parmly, manuscript records, and other family material.
