This work was created by the artist at the Melrose Plantation in Nachitoches, LA and was purchased at the plantation circa 1965
Lent under the aupsices of the US Department of State, Art in Embassies Program, reg. no. 1989.524 to Ambassador Smith Hempstone for his residence in Nairobi, Kenya in 1989, and again to Ambassador William Twadell for the American Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria in 1998.
A copy of the well illustrated biography, Clementine Hunter: American Folk Artist by James Wilson (Pelican Publishing, 1988) will accompany this lot.
