KENNEDY, JACQUELINE as FIRST LADY Autograph letter signed to Oleg Cassini regarding the press.
Washington: [circa 31 July 1961, date from postmark]. Two page autograph letter in blue ink signed "Jackie", written on the recto and verso of one sheet of "The White House" stationery. 7 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches. Accompanied by original mailing envelope addressed in Mrs. Kennedy's hand. Rust marks from paperclips to upper margin, usual fold.
Here Mrs. Kennedy instructs Cassini on language for the press: "The thing you are mistaken about is when you said 'If I don't tell the press something they will cut me up' - But they won't if you just say one phrase over & over 'I'm so sorry but with respect for Mrs. K's privacy I'd rather not discuss her. I know you understand.' Then they'll think you are so chivalrous..."
