  • Auction Total Topped $2 Million!

NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle’s popular semiannual auction of California Jewelry attracted hundreds of bidders vying for exquisite designs by the world's most prestigious makers. Following successful exhibitions on both coasts, the auction was held in Doyle's New York gallery on May 6, 2019. With competitive bidding in the salesroom, on the telephones, and via the Internet, the auction totaled a successful $2,012,962.

Highlighting the sale was an elegant natural pearl necklace from a Private Monarch Beach, California Collector that achieved an exceptional $175,000, far surpassing its estimate of $50,000-75,000. The necklace was comprised of 71 graduated natural pearls ranging from 4.53 mm to an impressive 10.08 mm with a marquise-shaped aquamarine clasp.

An Edwardian diamond tiara from the Estate of Helen Hartley realized $62,500, well over its estimate of $30,000-50,000. The glittering tiara could be worn to a royal state dinner, then transformed into five brooches or an elegant necklace for less formal occasions.

By Raymond Yard was a rare and highly-sought-after example of his whimsical Art Deco Rabbit Waiter brooches, which exceeded its estimate of $25,000-35,000, fetching $50,000. These anthropomorphic brooches delighted the 1920s elite, and continue to amuse us today. Read an essay by Specialist Nan Summerfield profiling Raymond Yard and his Rabbit Waiter brooches.  More
