NEW YORK, NY — Exceptional jewelry drove soaring prices at Doyle’s Important Jewelry auction on April 18, 2019. Highlighting the sale was a ring featuring one .92 ct. marquise-shaped Fancy Intense Blue diamond and one .86 ct. Fancy Vivid Blue diamond, framed by diamonds. The circa 1915 ring skyrocketed to $735,000, far surpassing its estimate of $200,000-300,000. A spectacular cabochon emerald, ruby and diamond necklace by Cartier achieved $287,500 (est. $50,000-70,000), while the matching bracelet reached $156,250 (est. $25,000-35,000) and earrings sold for $28,125 (est. $6,000-8,000). By Van Cleef & Arpels, an exquisite platinum, gold, mystery-set ruby and diamond flower clip-brooch exceeded its $40,000-60,000 estimate to realize $212,500.
With competitive bidding in the salesroom, on the telephones, and via the Internet the auction totaled $5,033,750 surpassing its estimate of $2,868,400 to $4,113,100, with 87% sold by lot and 90% sold by value.
