WOOLF, BELLA SIDNEY Fishing For Pearls. A Pictorial Record of the Pearl Fishery 1925.
[Colombo]: Plâté Ltd., 1925. First edition. Publisher's wrappers with original photograph mounted to upper cover, string-tied. 8 x 9 3/4 inches; 15 original photographs tipped onto 14 leaves accompanying letterpress by Bella Sidney Woolf (Mrs. W. T. Southorn). Wrappers with a couple of marginal tears and creases, one or two pale stains, occasional minor soiling to leaves.
An extremely rare item; we traced only this copy at auction (Keys Fine Arts Auctioneers, Books, May 18, 2007, Lot 686), and no copies in WorldCat. With charming original photographs of the pearl fishery at Marichchukaddi. Woolf was an author of both fiction and non-fiction, including many tourist guides to Ceylon where she lived for many years. Cover title: "Pearl Fishing in Ceylon."
