Roorkee: For the author by the Thomason College Press, 1867. First edition, extra-illustrated copy. Contemporary three-quarters calf over purple cloth, the spine in six compartments separated by five raised bands, red morocco gilt lettering piece in one, rebacked. 9 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches; xxi, 319, xv pp.; interleaved throughout with several ink and pencil annotations, 3 original ink sketches, and several photographs tipped in. Rebacked preserving much of the original spine, generally worn with nicks and scrapes and stray marks, somewhat overopened, endpapers foxed, bookplate to front pastedown.
A unique copy, with original drawings and manuscript annotations. With the bookplate of R. R. Maconachie. Provenance: Bonhams, October 04, 2011, Lot 173.
