Note the prominence of the two glaciers in the process of carving out steep valleys; they have since substantially receded. Man's works, as illustrated by the chalet in the right foreground, are at once dwarfed by those of nature and in full harmony with it. The overall impression conveyed by the scene is one of pastorial tranquility, underscored by the artist's use of nearly pastel tones of blue and pink in the sky and mountains.
