[ANGLING] The Whole Art of Fishing; Being a Collection and Improvement of All that Has Been Written upon This Subject, with Many New Experiments To which Is Added the Laws of Angling.
London: E. Curll, 1714. First edition. Full calf (by Thomas Gosden?) with a palmate roll in blind within a dotted and a single rule, spine in six compartments with four emblematic tools, all edges gilt. 6 7/8 x 4 inches (17 x 10 cm); viii [including frontispiece], 111, (1, index) pp. Front joint partially separated, label almost entirely chipped away. With the bookplates of Thomas Gosden and Alfred Denison on the front pastedown.
Westwood & Satchell, p. 18: "Should have a frontispiece of an angling scene, Windsor Castle in the distance, very often wanting. There is a quotation on the title page from Pope's 'Windsor Forest,' which gives appropriateness to this view." Heckscher 98. Denison sale catalogue (London, Sotheby & Co.,17 July, 1933), lot 237.
