STEELE, MILFORD H. Sporting Incidents: Being a Collection of Sixteen Plates done in color with numerous smaller cuts representing the most important events of the track field and road...
New York: Henry T. Thomas 1893-. One of 1,000 sets. Loose as issued in four parts with cloth backed pictorial boards, retained in a modern portfolio case. 22 5/8 x 18 1/8 inches (58 x 46 cm); 6 ff., 16 colored heliotype plates after W. S. Vanderbilt Allen. Boards somewhat worn and a bit soiled, some defects to plate edges, in all a decent set of a scarce American color plate work, but sold with all faults.
Frequently broken for the plates, this is an interesting late example of American color printing. Further parts were planned (the title calls for 44 plates), but this is all that was produced. Whitman Bennett American Nineteenth Century Color Plate Books 101.
