BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- Doyle’s semiannual West Coast sales of Jewelry attract hundreds of bidders vying for exquisite designs consigned from prominent private collections and estates. The range of offerings includes stylish jewelry for garden lunches to glittering statement pieces perfect for the red carpet. The Fall Jewelry auction took place on November 13, 2017 at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills.

Diamonds

Highlighting the sale was a diamond ring centering a pear-shaped diamond, approx. 4.02 carats, D color, SI1 clarity, that achieved $59,375, far surpassing its estimate of $30,000-40,000 amid spirited bidding. An Edwardian ring set with an old European-cut diamond, approx. 2.02 carats, D color, Internally Flawless clarity, fetched $43,750, against an estimate of $40,000-60,000. Property of a California Collector featured a riviere necklace of diamonds in graduating size totaling approx. 35.00 carats that sold for $53,125, within its estimate of $40,000-60,000.

Colored Stones

Colored stones featured an antique ring by Thomas Kirkpatrick centering a cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphire, approx. 2.70 carats, flanked by two diamonds totaling 1.93 carats. Kashmir sapphires are highly prized, and the ring sold for $50,000, exceeding its estimate of $30,000-40,000. Thomas Kirkpatrick Jewelers was established in New York in 1860. This Kashmir sapphire ring signed TK and dated '86 (1886) was sourced shortly after the discovery of the first legendary Kashmir sapphires in 1881 following a landslide high in the Himalaya Mountains of northwest India.

A pendant by Van Cleef & Arpels centered a rare square mixed-cut Tsavorite garnet, approx. 8.25 carats, that achieved $40,625, surpassing its estimate of $25,000-35,000. Brilliant green Tsavorite garnets were first discovered in 1967 in the mountains of North East Tanzania in Komolo. Their high brilliance, rarity and beauty was mostly unknown until 1974 when Tiffany & Co. launched a campaign to bring recognition to the vividly brilliant green colored stone. Rarely is a rough crystal found over 5 carats and often they are only found in 2 carats or smaller. This 8.25 carat Tsavorite garnet set by Van Cleef & Arpels is a significantly large and brilliant example for any collector. The stone is cut in an unusual and unique shape, displaying a 3 dimensional illusion in addition to its rare large size.

Elizabeth Taylor

Film legend Elizabeth Taylor assembled one of the most important jewelry collections of the modern era. With such a glamorous provenance, an exquisite gold, diamond and coral necklace by Andreoli attracted interest from her fans and jewelry collectors, which sent the necklace past its estimate of $20,000-30,000 to $34,375.

All prices include the buyer's premium.
