The Greek goddess of youth, Hebe poured the drink of immortality to the other Greek gods, which is why she holds a bowl in one hand and a pitcher in the other. Thorvaldsen created two versions of the statue, the present lot a copy of the earlier one in 1806, her peplos exposing one of her breasts, the latter, a fully clothed figure in 1816.
