Pair of George III Mahogany, Satinwood and Parcel Gilt Pier Tables
Circa 1785
Each crossbanded D-shaped top above a conforming frieze, raised on ring turned fluted legs headed by rectangular panels carved with oval paterae. Height 30 1/2 inches (77.5 cm), width 39 1/2 inches (1.0 m), depth 15 1/2 inches (39.4 cm).
The tapering fluted legs with turned collars recall a table design by John Yenn, a draftsman of Sir William Chambers, Royal architect, for a side table made for the Prince of Wales at Carlton House, one of which is found in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 29.118.1.
