First edition. 20th century three-quarters blue morocco, marbled sides, all edges red. 5 7/8 x 3 3/4 inches (15 x 9.5 cm); xx, 282 pp. Front endpaper loose, evenly toned throughout. Title inscribed "James Gardiner [Eman] Coll. 1684," likely the Bishop of Lincoln. With the Explorers Club Bookplate, inked number at foot of second leaf.
An interesting work on the origins of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, written as a reply to Hugo Grotius's De origine gentium Americanarum. Sabin 33014; Palau y Dulcet 116199; Alden/Landis 652/111; Field 717.
