Chinese Gilt-Bronze Buddhist Figure Seated on the Back of a Qilin
Ming Dynasty
Seated side saddle with his hands held in a teaching mudra, the left hand holding a cup the right holding a lotus sprig, dressed in long draped robes, the black hair held by a foliate crown, with curled eyebrows and goatee, the qilin beneath separately cast with the head turned upwards and whipping the tail, adorned with a red lacquer saddle and trappings, set on a fitted wood base. Height 32 inches.

We believe the top and the base were not cast to go together.

Qilin with casting holes to top of saddle area and another to top part of right hind leg where meets the stomach. Tail with an old break to outer portion of some of the tail hair. leg hair on back right leg is missing tip. Figure with overall gilt wear.

Height overall (including stand)- 34 inches
Height of figure and qilin- 32 inches
