Doyle New York’s auction of Modern Art on November 5, 2013 presented a wide range of paintings and sculpture from around the world by some of the 20th centuries' most prominent artists. Works by American, European, Latin American and Asian artists encompassed artistic movements from Cubism through Abstract Expressionism.

Featured in the sale are several works by Alexander Calder, including the 1973 gouache on paper, Puppet Man, that achieved $106,250 from a Middle Eastern buyer, surpassing its estimate of $70,000-90,000. By British artist Henry Moore (1898-1986) was a 1960 bronze scuplture, Seated Woman (Thin Neck), that exceeded its estimate of $40,000-60,000, selling for $81,250 to a New York buyer. Cheong Soo Pieng’s (Singaporean, 1917-1983) 1966 abstract, Misting, garnered a great deal of attention at the exhibition and auction, where it sold to a French buyer for $62,500, tripling its estimate of $15,000-25,000. Indian artist Sayed Haider Raza (b. 1922) was represented by an untitled abstract from 1960 that sold to a buyer in the United Kingdom for $43,750, within its estimate of $40,000-60,000.

By Washington Color School artist Alma Woodsey Thomas (American, 1891-1978) was Jonquils, a 1973 work consigned by a private collector from Chevy Chase, Maryland. The colorful painting sold for $46,875, within its estimate of $50,000-60,000, to a New York buyer.

All prices include the Buyers' Premium.
