Lot Details

Lot 38
BELL, ALEXANDER GRAHAM Autograph letter signed A. Graham Bell,
, 4 pp. in black ink, dated June 20, 1874, addressed to Miss Alice C. Jennings in Auburndale, Mass., regarding her poem Visible Speech; Together with a second letter dated February 2, 1874 to the same recipient. The first letter is in sound condition, but the second, on a poor quality paper, is separating at the folds.
An intriguing pair of letters reflecting Bell's involvement with hearing and the deaf, an interest that underpinned much of his research on sound and its transmission. He had considerable experience in Visible Speech, the subject of the poem which he commends so highly in his June letter.
