. Boston: Little, Brown & Co., 1951. First edition, in dust jacket (defective), with the $3.00 price and photograph of Salinger on the rear panel, attributed to Lotte Jacobi. An inscribed copy: "To Pat Brown/with best wishes/J.D. Salinger/The New Yorker/May 19, 1959." Original black cloth, in jacket as noted. 7 3/4 inches (19.5 cm); [3 ] ff., 277 pp. Spine of jacket mostly lacking (the title area is present but detached), front and rear panels worn but complete, flaps present, some loss to the fold for the front flap.
Inscribed copies of this work are of notorious rarity. American Book Prices Current notes only two inscribed copies at auction (one a fourteenth printing, the other the Neville copy of the second printing) since 1975.
