Japanese Gilt-Wood Kannon Bosatsu
Muromachi Period, 16th century
Standing on a lotus base clad in a long dhoti gathered at the waist, with traces of gilt foliate roundels and asa-no-ha, the hands held in varada mudra, with attached pendant jewelry, the hair gathered in a high topknot and framed by a pierced diadem. Height 22 1/2 inches.
