Chinese Seated Gilt-Bronze Avalokitesvara
Ming Dynasty, 16th century
Seated in dhyanasana on a lotus throne raised on a pedestal base, the hands holding an alms bowl and the stem of a lotus flower, clad in long robes and foliate crown. Height 22 inches.

General overall gilt-wear, tip of ribbon from crown by earlobe is missing (see photo), small chips to cup, traces of red lacquered on lips and crown, two apertures on base (see photo), base resoldered (see photo), holes in back of figure, small repairs of bronze repair on back, figure is glued onto lotus base. Buddha was cast separately from base and later glued on.
