From Sellers, "End-May 1804 The President received all the travelers with his usual friendly warmth…The party visited the Navy Yard, the new capitol buildings, and called upon Peale’s friends, Dr. William Thorton, the architect, and Samuel Smith, then a senator from Pennsylvania. To these and others, Peale presented silhouettes of the Baron and entourage, having brought along a pocketful for the purpose."
