Group of letters and autographs. Comprises An autograph letter signed, dated June 9, 1905. 4 pp. on Bateman's letterhead addressed to "Leonard" regarding family and personal matters, particularly sending thanks for the gift of a young horse, "... She is a darling as I wired and uncommon well bred to boot--cocks up her little flag like an arab ... Got a row on with the Royal Union about a cess-pool which closes into my fields, and am having my trout 'overlooked' by poachers..."; together with An autograph note signed to "Mrs. Bell," dated August 27th 97 on the recto, from Rottingdean, 9 lines about trying to keep a previous house warm, and "Nothing compensates for the cold in this land I think"; An official printed press pass issued to Kipling as a journalist to cover the 1905 visit of the French fleet, No. 73, backed with gilt-stamped blue leather; and An autograph letter by Kipling's son John, penned as a small child, Bateman's, Nov. 18, to Miss Daisy, sending thanks for a present. Usual folds, condition overall sound.
John Kipling died during the Battle of Loos at the age of eighteen. He was memorialized in Kipling's moving poem My Boy Jack. His letters are quite uncommon. (4)
