Core-Formed Unguentarium (Perfume Bottle): there is a chip loss to one of the handles; the handles are not symmetric (one is located higher or lower than the other); there is scattered crud residue on the exterior side of the vessel, most notably, to the ankle area of the foot; there are burst air bubbles on the interior side of the mouth, apparently, as made; there are other scattered burst air bubbles, including to the neck and body; there appears to be a very faint but discernible razor-thin hairline crack to the body, visible under high magnification, which is visible at the top of the neck and extends downwards in a diagonal manner, at least down to the bottom part of the body (beneath the horizontal trailed banding); the foot is presumably original, however it may be a later addition; the vessel does not stand straight when placed upright, it has a lean

Blown Glass Bottle-Form Vessel: appears to be in generally good condition; there are losses to the thin opaque white colored horizontal trailed decoration; there is mineral deposit/staining to the interior side of the vessel; the vessel has a lean to it when standing upright

NEW YORK, NY -- International competition drove strong results at Doyle's auction of Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Prints on January 25, 2024. The sale showcased a wide range of works including landscapes, still lifes, portraits and religious subjects by European artists from the Renaissance through the 19th century.

Wojciech Kossak (1856-1942) was a member of a celebrated Polish family of artists who specialized in equestrian subjects and scenes from military history. The sale featured a remarkable work depicting an historic victory of the fabled German Black Hussars over a Russian artillery unit, probably during the Seven Years’ War. Competitive bidding drove this painting to $28,800, more than doubling its estimate.

François Boucher‘s paintings and drawings are prized for their idyllic evocations of the French rococo style. Achieving an exceptional $25,600 was a lovely chalk drawing of a lady holding a birdcage. It was clearly executed by an artist who knew Boucher's style intimately, probably a member of his immediate circle.
