Chinese Cizhou Jar
Song/Yuan Dynasty
Of shoulded form, painted in deep brown on a white slip with panels of cranes amid clouds and grasses reserved on a swirling ground and between loosely drawn foliate bands, all terminating above the unglazed foot, later wood lid. Height 7 1/2 inches.

Of shoulded form, painted in deep brown on a white slip with panels of cranes amid clouds and grasses reserved on a swirling ground and between loosely drawn foliate bands, all terminating above the unglazed foot, later wood lid. Height 7 1/2 inches.

Large crack through body extending from rim to rim in 'u' shape with associated crack extending from it. Repaired and stabilized. Glaze wear to rim and foot areas. Very well painted. Lid broken and repaired.
