Notes:These Sèvres biscuit figures are known as Les Amours Falconet, after the celebrated models by Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791). Originally conceived in 1755, Falconet's plaster model of Cupid was exhibited at the Salon of that year, followed two years later by a marble version commissioned for Madame de Pompadour and likewise shown at the Salon. After his appointment as Director of Sculpture at the Sevres manufactory (1757-1766), Falconet adapted the Cupid model for biscuit porcelain production. The companion figure of Psyche was created in 1761 and produced exclusively in biscuit.
