Wang Hui (Wang Shigu), 1632-1717
[A RESPECTFUL VERSION INSPIRED BY] LI YINGQIU'S CASUAL GRAZING IN THE WOODS
Ink and slight color on paper, 35 1/4 x 20 5/8 inches (89.5 x 52.4 cm), four seals of the artist and cyclically dated to the 9th day of the 6th month of 1671. Collector's seals of Jing Jianquan. Another seal of Jing Jianquan and the original title slip with another of his seals mounted in the border; padded silk storage bag.

Inventoried: Sanqiuge shuhua lu, (The Three-Autumn Studio Painting and Calligraphy Collection Catalogue), Peking, 1928, vol. 2, pp15/16. Copies exist in the Harvard Yenching Library, Harvard University; the Freer Gallery of Art; Asiatic Art Department, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Former Collection: Jing Jianquan

According to the colophon by Wang Shigu, this painting was inspired by a painting by Li Yingqiu he saw in the collection of Pan Guanglu of Shanghai. It had previously been owned by Dong Wenmin who had it remounted from a handscroll to an album page.
