The first book and autobiography of one of the great 20th century American folk singers, rare in the dust jacket made from the author's own artwork. The book is the basis for the 1976 film of the same name, directed by Hal Ashby and starring David Carradine as Woody Guthrie. The book also is known to have profoundly impacted Bob Dylan, who read it in 1960, and inspired his song "Song to Woody."
This copy is from the library of Maynard Solomon, the founder of Vanguard Records which issued Greatest Songs of Woody Guthrie on the label in 1972.

Over his 50-year career Charles Strouse wrote the music for such iconic musical theater hits as Bye Bye Birdie, Applause and Annie, as well as the theme song for the classic sitcom All in the Family ("Those Were the Days"). Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin's partnership on Annie produced one of Broadway's most successful scores ever.
