Copy 111 of 175 copies on French mouldmade Johannot paper (of which 150 were for sale), signed by Motherwell. White alum-tawed pigskin on the spine and fore-edges of the boards, sides in blue cloth with white flecks, housed in matching cloth slipcase. 12 11/2 x 9 1/2 inches (32.5 x 24 cm); 835 pp., with 40 etchings by Robert Motherwell, of which 20 are in color. Fading to the rear of the slipcase, the book itself in essentially fine condition.
An extraordinarily ambitious undertaking for a modern private press, the Arion Ulysses is an artist book on a par with the Limited Edition Club edition illustrated by Matisse.
