CHORIER, NICOLAS. Histoire Generale de Dauphine. Grenoble: Phillipes Charvys, 1661; Together with CHORIER, NICOLAS. Histoire Generale de Dauphine depuis l'an M. de N.S. jusques a nos jours. Lyons: Jean Thioly, 1672. Both the first and second volumes are first editions. Two volumes uniformly bound (despite different text-block sizes), early 19th century French half calf, marbled sides. The first work 12 5/8 x 8 3/8 inches (32 x 21 cm); the second 14 1/8 x 9 inches (36.5 x 22 cm); volume I [14] ff., 874 pp. [32] ff; volume II [6] ff, 768 pp., [7] ff., with the 86 pp. Histoire Genealogique de la Maison de Sassenage appended, with separate title and preface. Exteriors worn, joints somewhat defective, the bottom panel of the first volume nearly detached; within some staining towards the end of the first volume.
The history of the Dauphines of France to 1672, these copies are from the Library of the Dauphines at Versailles, the first volume apparently an authorial presentation copy, based on the title page marginalia.
