JAMES BOND
"007" logo designer Joe Caroff's James Bond Omega Titanium 'Seamaster Diver 300M' Wristwatch. The 007 Edition, 2021. This watch was issued by Omega to celebrate the release of the 25th James Bond film No Time To Die in 2021, which stars Daniel Craig as the titular spy. Bond can clearly be seen wearing the Omega Seamaster, his 9th film wearing Omega (the first was GoldenEye in 1995). This watch was owned and worn by "007" logo creator and well-known graphic artist Joe Caroff. The back of the watch is engraved especially "For Joe" and also bears numbering relating to naval and military issue watches. With an Omega leather band that is likely a replacement, please note only the watch comes with the lot.
Joe Caroff (1921-2025) designed the now internationally recognised logo for the James Bond franchise, featuring the barrel of a pistol and trigger pointing out of the final number in "007," in 1962. It has been updated but used continuously since. This watch was a gift from the Bond producers to Joe Caroff on his 100th birthday in 2021.
About the watch, Omega's website reports, "Each 42 mm timepiece has been crafted from Grade 2 Titanium, which is used for the case and bracelet with its innovative adjustable buckle. This special material is particularly strong and lightweight, making it perfect for an undercover agent. Special new doming of the sapphire-crystal glass has also created a slightly slimmer watch than the standard Seamaster Diver 300M models. For this watch, Omega has introduced an aluminium dial, with a colour that replicates the aged brown hue that certain vintage dials turn over time. This colour tone is referred to by collectors as “tropical”. The aluminium bezel ring of this watch also features the same colour shade."
Also, according to Omega's website devoted to the Bond watch: "Lindy Hemming, the Oscar-winning costume designer, was responsible for casting 007’s watch in GoldenEye. She said, 'I was convinced that Commander Bond, a naval man, a diver, and a discreet gentleman of the world would wear the Seamaster with the blue dial.'" The website also describes the relationship between the watch company and the famous fictional spy as "OMEGA and 007 are appreciated for their fashion flair, adventurous spirit and reliability – they complement each other perfectly."
An image of Mr. Caroff at his design table and another wearing the Omega Seamaster Diver are included here (but not part of the lot).
