Lance Humphries dates Early May, originally titled Old Barn and Apple Tree, to April 1948. Mentioned in the artist's record book in association with this work, Pt. Pleasant is a town in Pennsylvania just a few miles from Garber's home in Cuttalossa, in Buck's County. Documented in the catalogue raisonne, the artist's archives include correspondence from Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Hilliard with Garber in October and November, 1950, and in April, 1951. We thank Dr. Garber for his very kind assistance in authenticating the present work.

Overall good condition. No evidence of inpaint or restoration under UV exam. Surface appears a bit dull. Light horizontal craquelure, no loss. A few small scattered possible abrasions near the lower edge that may be intentional and original to the painting.
