Norway and Its Glaciers Visited in 1851; followed by Journals of Excursions in the High Alps of Dauphiné, Berne, and Savoy. Edinburgh: Adam & Charles Black, 1853. Three-quarters green morocco, cloth sides, all edges marbled. 9 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches (25 x 18.5 cm); with 10 chromolithographic views and two maps (one hand-colored and folding). Some binding wear and soiling, small pale stain to the upper corner of the frontispiece and title, minor foxing and toning to the first and last few leaves, names in ink on front free endpaper. 1885 bookplate of Robert Downs.
Forbes had previously studied in the Alps, where in 1841 he had been a colleague of Louis Agassiz. The chromolithographs are by Louis Haghe at Day & Son. Neate F44; Perret 1708.
