ZOLA, EMILE
Autograph letter signed to Monsieur [Leon-Edouard Koella] Leenhoff Medan, 24 Nov[ember] 1884. Single page on notepaper, seven lines of text in black ink plus felicitations etc. 6 1/2 x 5 inches (16.5 x 12.5 cm). Framed with a photograph of Zola.
Zola writes that he is returning to Paris on Monday, and asks Leenhoff to visit him around ten o'clock early in the week for a chat. He sends his regards to Mme. Manet. Leon Leenhoff, the recipient of this letter, was the son of Suzanne Manet (nee Leenhoff), and possibly also of Edouard Manet, and was the subject of several of the latter's paintings. Zola, of course, was long a champion of Manet's art, writing a monograph on him (illustrated with a Manet etching) in 1867.
