Estate / Collection: Collection of Bob & Judy Elliott
WESTON, EDWARD (1886–1958)
Eggplant, 1929, likely printed 1940s. Gelatin silver print, 7 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches (190 x 235 mm), dry-mounted, signed and dated by the artist in pencil on the mount (l.r.), numbered 8 from an edition of 50 (l.l.), the verso with a notation in pencil 16V. Several small retouchings and a small mark noted in raking light, some very minor silvering at extreme edges. Framed.
According to the Weston Negative Log (Center for Creative Photography, Tucson) only seven prints were made of this image, and a later note indicates that four of these had been destroyed. Conger located three prints in institutions, including that at the Center for Creative Photography. Two examples have appeared at auction, apparently distinct from these examples (and neither appears to be this). One of these was marked as copy three of 50. The image is unquestionably rare, by any calculus. Conger 561; Armitage, Art of Edward Weston, p. 33.

Auction: Fine Art & Photographs, Dec 12, 2023
NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held an auction of Fine Art on December 12, 2023 showcasing affordable paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture spanning the Post-War years to the present day by established and emerging artists. Exciting opportunities abound for seasoned bidders and new collectors alike in this popular sale category.
Will Barnett
Highlighting the sale was a drawing in pencil and crayon, Study for the Blue Robe, by Will Barnett (1911-1962) that soared past its $2,000-3,000 estimate to achieve $18,900. With a career spanning over eight decades, Will Barnet focused on representational work with clean, flattened graphics often depicting serene, enigmatic scenes. From 1962, Study for the Blue Robe is representative of Barnet's new direction, employing figures that are carefully balanced, with unique form and motion.
