NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle will present 80s New York Featuring the Keith Haring Pop Shop Collection of Julia Markus as a timed online auction closing on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 10am. Celebrating the artists and creative energy that transformed New York during this dynamic decade, the sale brings together paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, multiples, photography and memorabilia from one of the city’s most influential cultural eras.

The 1980s saw New York at the forefront of artistic innovation as the worlds of street art, graffiti, music, fashion, performance and contemporary art converged in new and exciting ways. From SoHo galleries and East Village clubs to the gritty West Side piers, the city became a laboratory for creative experimentation, nurturing a generation of artists whose influence continues to resonate today.

The Keith Haring Pop Shop Collection of Julia Markus
A highlight of the auction is an extensive group of material from the Keith Haring Pop Shop Collection of Julia Markus. When Haring opened the Pop Shop in SoHo in 1986, he created a groundbreaking retail space that made his iconic imagery accessible to a broader audience through affordable prints, posters, apparel and collectibles.

Among the shop’s earliest and most enthusiastic supporters was Professor Julia Markus, author of several acclaimed books, including Lady Byron and Her Daughters and J. Anthony Froude: The Last Undiscovered Great Victorian. A lifelong New Yorker and dedicated patron of the arts, Markus discovered the Pop Shop shortly after it opened and became a devoted collector. Over the years, she assembled an extraordinary trove of Pop Shop ephemera, including radios, inflatables, magnets, apparel, books and other objects created by Haring and his collaborators. Doyle is pleased to present this remarkable collection as a centerpiece of the auction.

Additional offerings include works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, Ronnie Cutrone and other artists whose creative output helped define the decade.

TIMED ONLINE AUCTION
Bidding in the timed online auction will open on July 30 and close on August 20 beginning at 10am. Lots will close sequentially, one lot per minute, with a soft close. Should any bids be placed in the final minute, bidding will remain open on that lot for three (3) additional minutes.
