Auction: Important Jewelry, Dec 12, 2024
NEW YORK, NY -- Jewelry sold at Doyle has seen outstanding results throughout the season! The strong performance of Doyle’s jewelry auctions highlights the continued strength of the jewelry market, driven in part by ever-growing competition from private collectors at all levels of value. This exciting trend was particularly evident at the December auctions of Important and Fine Jewelry, where the combined total reached an impressive $8.78 million
Diamond Rings
Diamond prices were exceptionally strong, led by two important diamond rings from the Collection of Joanne B. Breyer. The top lot of the sale was a Bulgari diamond ring that soared past its estimate of $300,000-500,000 to achieve a staggering $1,175,250. Purchased by a private collector following intense competition, the ring featured a dazzling emerald-cut diamond weighing 15.76 carats, E color, VS1 clarity.
From the same collection was a ring set with a Fancy Intense Yellow diamond weighing an impressive 21.27 carats, natural color, VS1 clarity, that realized $572,000, surpassing its $300,000-500,000 estimate.
Colored Stone Jewelry
Important jewelry set with colored stones featured an elegant pair of sapphire and diamond earclips that sold for $279,900, many times their estimate of $50,000-70,000. Also from the Collection of Joanne B. Breyer, the earclips were set with four oval sapphires of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Madagascar origin with no evidence of heat or clarity enhancement.
Emeralds were highlighted by a Colombian emerald ring by Harry Winston that achieved $203,700, far surpassing its estimate. Consigned from the Collection of Joanne B. Breyer, the ring featured an emerald-cut emerald weighing 11.50 carats.
Another standout was an exquisite ring centering an oval Burma ruby of 10.43 carats with no evidence of heat or clarity enhancement that realized $178,300, many times its estimate.
Featured in the sale was jewelry from the Collections of Carolyn Pesnell Amory, Joanne B. Breyer and Joanne duPont Foster
