Original publisher's blue cloth blocked in gilt and blind, in the first English binding described by Sadleir, all edges gilt. 7 x 4 1/2 inches (18 x 11.75 cm); viii, 378 pp.; illustrated by Arthur Hughes. Head and tail of the spine restored with losses, as well as a separation at the head of the front joint, hinges cracking and partially restored.
A scarce edition of George Macdonald's best-known fantasy tale, this seems to have been prepared specifically for the American market.
