NEW YORK, NY -- Competitive bidding drove strong results at Doyle’s auction of Boston Collects: Including Jewelry from the Estate of a Boston Lady on February 6, 2026. This highly successful sale was held at Doyle Boston’s location in The Vendome at 290 Dartmouth Street and livestreamed on Doyle.com. The popular Boston Collects auctions feature an exciting array of artwork, furniture, silver and jewelry from collections and estates in the New England area and beyond.

Jewelry
Highlighting Jewelry from the Estate of a Boston Lady was a sparkling pair of diamond earrings set with pear-shaped diamond pendants that surpassed their estimate, achieving $16,640. Property from other owners featured an exquisite gold pendant-watch enhanced with cabochon sapphires by Marcus & Co. that flew past its estimate of $2,000-3,000 to realize $12,800. Bearing an inscription dated 1902, the pendant-watch was a rare and particularly fine example by one of New York’s most important jewelers of the era.

Silver
Silver offerings performed strongly throughout the sale, most notably an unusual two-handled silver-mounted cut glass claret jug that soared past its estimate of $600-800 to achieve a stunning $12,160. A fine example of American Aesthetic silver, the late 19th century claret jug was retailed by New York jewelers C.W. Schumann & Sons. In his 1891 book Art and Gems, Charles William Schumann described the firm as catering to “the very best class of trade and carrying none but strictly fine goods. They number a large proportion of the wealthiest and most aristocratic families of New York among their regular customers."

Fine Art
Fine art in the sale featured Emile Albert Gruppe’s (1896-1978) Boats in Harbor that sailed past its $1,000-2,000 estimate to achieve $7,680. A central figure in the Rockport, Massachusetts art colony and founder of the Gloucester School of Painting, Gruppe was known for his depictions of New England coastal landscapes and harbor scenes.
