Reflecting a renewed appreciation for entertaining at home, collectors vied for a diversity of silver flatware and serving pieces, porcelain dinner services, glassware and distinctive accessories, underscoring a return to thoughtfully curated tables that bring individuality, character and a heightened sense of occasion.
Dodie Thayer Lettuce Ware Collection
Highlighting the auction was an extensive collection of 80 pieces of Dodie Thayer’s iconic ceramic lettuce ware that achieved $32,000, surpassing its $20,000-30,000 estimate. For decades, Thayer’s whimsical, handcrafted lettuce ware has epitomized Palm Beach style, attracting such devoted admirers as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, C.Z. Guest, Bunny Mellon and Brooke Astor. This remarkable collection was from the Estate of Lois Wideman of Palm Beach, whose distinguished career spanned modeling with the Ford Agency in New York to interior design with the celebrated Palm Beach firms Jessup, Inc. and Kemble Interiors.
