NEW YORK, NY --On Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 10am, Doyle will host the next sale in the popular Doyle+Design auction category. This highly-anticipated sale showcases a wide range of Modern and Contemporary furniture, art and design by prominent designers, makers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Collection of Whitney Robinson & Marc Karimzadeh
A special section of the sale will showcase a second offering of stylish furniture, design and art from The Collection of Whitney Robinson & Marc Karimzadeh (View Lots). In 2023, Doyle presented the first offering from the collection of former design editor and real estate developer and global brand consultant Whitney Robinson and CFDA Editorial and Communications Director Marc Karimzadeh.
Alexander Calder Lamp
Executed circa 1940, this lamp (lot 18) reflects Alexander Calder’s longstanding interest in creating functional objects alongside his sculptural practice. Constructed from sheet metal, wood, and electrical components, the work demonstrates the artist’s direct and inventive use of modest materials. The lamp’s conical shade, hand-worked surface, and simple cruciform base emphasize utility while retaining the distinctive balance and economy of form associated with Calder’s work. Gifted by the artist to his parents, A. Sterling and Nanette Calder, for their home in Richmond, Massachusetts, the present example offers insight into a lesser-known aspect of Calder’s production: the creation of practical objects for personal and domestic use. Registered with the Calder Foundation, the lamp stands as a rare example of the artist’s exploration of design beyond traditional sculptural formats.
