BOSTON, MA – Doyle presented the popular Boston Collects auction on September 12, 2025 in our newly exanded location at 290 Dartmouth Street at The Vendome. Held in Boston and livestreamed on Doyle.com, the Boston Collects auctions offer an exciting array of artwork, furniture, silver, decorative arts and jewelry from collections and estates in the New England area and beyond.
Competitive bidding sent a handsome George III mahogany secretary bookcase far over its $3,000-5,000 estimate to achieve an impressive $14,080. The cabinet doors opened to reveal a compartmented interior with finely carved architectural details.
Also performing strongly was an "Easy Edges” lounge chair and ottoman by Frank Gehry that realized $7,680, many times its $1,500–2,500 estimate. Best known for his architecture, Gehry first came to fame in the early 1970s with his “Easy Edges” line of furniture constructed from laminated corrugated cardboard.
A watercolor portrait miniature of Colonel William Montgomery, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, soared past its $400-600 estimate to achieve $4,800. William Montgomery (1736–1816) served as a delegate to the Provincial Conference and as Colonel of the 4th Regiment of the Chester County Militia. In 1776, he was appointed Brigadier General of the 1st Pennsylvania Regiment. He later served in the Pennsylvania Assembly in 1779 and in the Continental Congress in 1784.
The Collection of Tony Fusco & Robert Four
Featured in the September 12 sale were 75 lots of fine and decorative arts from the Collection of Tony Fusco & Robert Four. Co-founders of the marketing firm Fusco & Four in 1979, they helped shape Boston’s art and design industry, launching such signature events as Boston Design Week and the Boston International Fine Art Show. Property from their personal collection reflects a shared passion for the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras, with pottery by Boch Frères and Roseville, French bronzes, Rockwell Kent prints, paintings by William J. Scott, and much more. Highlights included two circa 1925 "Biches Bleues" vases by Charles Catteau for Boch Frères Keramis that more than doubled their $800-1,200 estimate, selling for $2,880.
