NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction of Old Master & 19th Century Paintings & Drawings on January 21, 2021. Showcased were a wide range of fine landscapes, still lifes, portraits and religious subjects by European artists from the Renaissance through the 19th century.
With international competitive bidding, the sale totaled $225,068 within the estimate of $182,300-326,800 with 81% sold by lot and an exceptional 100% sold by value.
Among the sale highlights was a portrait of Rear Admiral John Sprat Rainier by John Hoppner from the Estate of A. Edward Allinson, Palm Beach, that achieved $11,340 against an estimate of $8,000-15,000. Read an essay by Elaine Stainton profiling the famed British portraitist. Read More
A pair of Dutch 17th century floral still lifes from the Estates of Harvey and Ruth Spear realized $12,600, far exceeding their estimate of $1,500-3,000, and a Still Life of Fruit on a Marble Ledge by a follower of Willem van Aelst from the Estate of Loucel G. Lipman sold for $10,710, more than doubling its estimate of $2,000-5,000.
Strong prices were also realized for works depicting religious and mythological subjects from the Collection of Donald and Leona Kuba.
