[DAGUERREOTYPE-PORTRAITS] Two ninth-plate portrait daguerreotypes.
[Young woman in bonnet]. A[ddison]. A. Fish, Boston: circa 1854-6. Housed in a union case, with Fish's card for the "Mammoth Daguerrian Rooms" at 228 Washington Street inserted. In attractive condition. the image very bright and fresh; Together with [Young woman in bonnet]. C[harles]. V. Allen, Boston: circa 1854. Housed in a leather case with Allen's name embossed on the velvet, with Allen's card for the "25 Cent Daguerrian Rooms" at 258 1/2 Washington Street inserted. In attractive condition. the image very bright and fresh.
Presumably these two establishments on the same street competed strongly. By 1857, Allen was apparently in a new career as a policeman. Fish is believed to have had a studio in Indianapolis by 1860-61; he died in 1862.
