[MAP-BRITISH ISLES]
JANSSON, JAN. Insularum Britannicarum Acurata Delineatio ex Geographicis Conatibus Abrahami Ortelii. Amsterdam: Apud Joannem Jansonium, [circa 1636]. Engraved map, hand colored, framed. 15 1/2 x 20 inches (39 x 51 cm) to the neatline. Some pale spots, flattened but with the central fold and guard on verso faintly visible, not examined out of frame.
An attractive example of Jansson's map of antique England, Scotland and Ireland, oriented to the west. It is based on a 1570 map from Ortelius' antique atlas Parergon, likely printed from the same plate but heavily reworked by Pieter Van Den Keere. Jansson's version often appears in various editions of his Atlas Novus. Provenance: Heritage Maps, Doylestown Pennsylvania, 1998. Shirley, "British Isles," 186 and 466.
