Experiments and observations on electricity, made at Philadelphia in America...to which are added, letters and papers on philosophical subjects. London: printed for F. Newbery, 1774. Fifth edition, stated. Full contemporary calf. 9 inches (23 cm). 4to, [2] i.e. half-title, v, [1] , 514, [16] pp.; with seven plates, three of which are folding. With a neat early rebacking, endpapers replaced at that time, the original spine label retained. Some minor rubbing to joints, first three preliminary leaves a little foxed, but generally a clean, sound copy.
In addition to Franklin's electrical experiments, the Franklin fireplace is discussed (with a text illustration) as well as other investigations in the natural sciences. Ford. p. 149; Sabin 25506.
Provenance: with an early inscription on first blank (E. Fabian Newman?) and various other pencilled notations by later owners.
