The Story of the Malakand Field Force. An Episode of Frontier War
. Longmans, Green and Co., London, New York and Bombay, 1898. First edition, first issue, second state (with the errata slip preceding the first map), one of about 2,000 copies (a further 2,000 were printed for the Colonial edition, which differs from this in binding and title page, and is considered a later issue). Original apple green cloth, the title in gilt at the upper right of the front cover surrounded by a blind rule, title, author and publisher lettered on the spine. 7 1/2 x 5 inches (19 x 13 cm); xvi, 336 pp., 32 pp. ads, with a frontispiece portrait of Sir Bindon Blood, and six maps and diagrams as called for. Spine darkened, corners a bit bumped, rubbing to head and toe of spine, some minor soiling to covers. Two small cracks to hinge of front endpaper, several ownership inscriptions including one of 1898 on the half-title, a little scattered foxing.
