MERCATOR, RUMOLD. Orbis Terrae Compendiosa Descriptio... N.p. [Duisberg?]: dated 1587, but 1603 or later, as this exhibits three cracks in the textual portion of the block. Engraved double-hemisphere map of the world, approximately 11 1/4 x 20 1/2 inches (28.5 x 52 cm) within neatlines, sheet 15 1/2 x 21 1/2 inches. The title and date are set in a banner along the upper margin, the map with decorative strapwork background, compass rose and armillary sphere, in hand-coloring (probably early), letterpress text in Latin on verso. Neatly repaired separation along central fold in lower third of map, some toning to paper, framed (glazed on both sides).
