Estate / Collection: Collection of a New York Surveyor

Map of twenty five Lots of Ground in the Sixth Ward the Property of Dominic Lynch Esqr.
Manuscript map in ink and colors on paper, with "Drawn April 1821 by D. Ewen, C.S., taken from the Original June 30 1821 by Geo. B. Smith" in ink at lower right. 20 x 27 inches (50 x 68 cm). The map is backed. Small losses along border, tear from right edge, dust soiling, later pencil markings within the image.

An attractive plan of the blocks laid-out in the area of the Collect Pond, filled in between 1802 and the 1813. Collect Street here is now Centre Street; Orange Street now Baxter; Pump Street is also indicated by its present name of Walker Street. Dominick Lynch (c. 1787-1837) was a New York City wine merchant and one of the many invited guests to George Washington's inaugural ball in 1789.
